LEARN 11 Learning Center Assignments (Assessments)

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

These assignments are designed to help you to assess your study skills strengths and weaknesses and develop a plan to improve your skills as a student. You will be assigned a folder in which you will file most of these assignments.

    Most assignments must be completed in the Learning Center at either campus (in the L Building at LAC or the GG Building at PCC). You may visit the Quick Links to Programs on the LAR Homepage for the hours of operation at each location. Keep your folder and its contents in the Center at all times .

    You may ask the Advisor at the front counter of the Learning Center for assistance.

    Reserve approximately 30 minutes for each assignment.

    Place completed assignments #2, 3, and 4 below in your LEARN 11 folder.

Below are the assignments and their instructions. Download and print a hard copy of these instructions to hand in to your instructor for verification. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view them. For instructions on how to install Acrobat please click here.


1. Introductory letter

Use the Introductory Letter Instructions as a guide in writing your letter. Follow your instructor’s instructions on what to do with your Letter.

2. LASSI #1 (Learning & Study Strategies Inventory)

Ask for this computerized assessment in the computer lab at LAC (L251) or PCC (LL216). You will get a computer printout of your results. When completed, put the printout in your folder.

3. LTM (Learning Type Measure)

Ask for the computerized assessment in the computer labs at LAC (L251) or PCC (LL216). Remember to use the laminated vocabulary sheet available in the computer lab. Put the 3-page printout in your folder.

4. IPRE (Initial Placement Reading Evaluation)

Ask for the IPRE booklet at the front counter of the learning center LAC (L204) or PCC (LL211). Put your answers on the goldenrod IPRE answer Sheet in your folder. Have the staff at the counter SCORE your answer sheet. Put your scored answer sheet back in your folder.

5. Instructor Appointment

Your appointment can be made after you have completed assessments 1-4 above. Make this appointment at the front counter in LAC (L212) or PCC (LL211). Meet with your instructor no later than the end of the 8th week of class

6. DLA #1

Log in at success center at LAC (L212) or PCC (LL206). Follow instructions from front counter staff. They will ask you to go across the hall to the computer lab to complete your online LASSI modules no later than the end of week 10 of your course, then return to the success center front counter to meet with your tutor or instructional specialist.

7. DLA #2

See DLA#1 instructions, due no later than the end of week 12 of your course.

8. LASSI Retake

This assessment is to be completed at the end of the semester or course. Wait for instructions from your instructor. Remember to have your first LASSI with you so that you can use your student key LAC (L251) or PCC (LL216)
