SERVICES

  • The ACC is an educational resource available to assist you in your learning experience while attending Long Beach City College.
  • Computers are available for academic work only.
  • Printing is $.10 per page and the amount is deducted from a debit card that can be purchased in the Library building.

POLICIES

  • Because the lab is for academic purposes, students must be respectful of the learning that takes place in that area.
  • There is a 2-hour limit on the use of the computers.
  • Noise in the lab must be kept to a minimum; if you are listening to music from the Internet or a CD, you must wear headphones. You may use your own headphones or check them out at the Reception desk.
  • Food and drinks of ANY kind are not allowed in the lab or around any computer workstations.
  • All work left on the computer will be deleted.
  • Students will be held responsible for any damage to the equipment or facility due to misuse or accident.
  • The staff reserves the right to view assignments and may do so periodically to monitor activities in the lab.
  • We have taken precautions against computer viruses, but we cannot guarantee that disks used in the lab will be free from viruses and we take no responsibility for damage due to virus infection.
  • The computer lab is not responsible for the loss of data that may occur.
  • A saved document can prevent a lot of frustration. Students must have their own removable drive to save their work. Even if you are not planning to keep a document, there is always the possibility of printing problems or computer malfunctions.
  • There will be times when the lab is full. The lab tech can help only one person at a time; your patience is appreciated and necessary.
  • Students who are abusive to the staff or equipment, or who act in violation of the policies or the posted LBCC Acceptable Use Policy, will be asked to leave.
  • Your cooperation in complying with these policies will make the time you spend in the ACC an enjoyable experience for everyone.
  • Because our computers are to be used for academic purposes ONLY, no downloads from the Internet are allowed. If you are required to download as part of an academic assignment, please ask the lab tech for assistance.
  • It is expected that you are familiar with the software you are using. If not, please ask the lab tech for an orientation. If you need further help, please raise your hand and the lab tech will come by to help you. Enrolling in LEARN 617 entitles you to instructional assistance during the hours that instructors are on duty. Check each semester for the hours of instruction.

TO CHECK OUT A LAPTOP:

  • You need to leave two forms of ID - a valid California Drivers License or California ID, and a valid College Services card. If you do not have a College Services card, you must present a current printout of your classes.
  • The lab tech will go over a short equipment checklist with you to ensure the laptop is in good working order and that you understand how to use it.

LAPTOP CHECK-IN:

  • When you return the laptop to the lab tech, it will be checked to verify that it is in good working order. Be sure to sign the check-in form and get back your ID.

LAPTOP POLICIES:

  • There is a two-hour limit on laptop checkouts. The laptops do not have an A/C power adapter and the batteries need to be recharged.
  • If you are late checking in the laptop, you will lose the privilege of checking out a laptop for 30 days. A second offense will result in a loss of privileges for 60 days; a third offense will result in a loss of privileges for 90 days.
  • When you've checked out a laptop, you're responsible for making sure nothing gets broken.
  • If something happens beyond the normal bounds of wear-and-tear, you're liable for the damage. So treat the laptop as you would your own - don't leave it unattended, don't perch it precariously where it could fall, and make sure you secure the case before carrying it around.
  • No food or drink of any type is allowed around a laptop.
  • All work left on the computer will be deleted.
  • All ACC policies also apply to laptop use.
