HOW TO BECOME A TUTOR
A tutor must be a full-time student (12 units per semester for undergraduates or 1+ units if officially enrolled in a graduate program) and have a 3.0 GPA in the subject area(s) in which he or she tutors. Final appointment for employment is contingent upon receipt of instructor recommendation and a copy of transcripts verifying GPA. Tutors may be required to work at both campuses. If you are interested in becoming a tutor, please contact Chris Glover (562) 938-4669.

The Learning & Academic Resources department offers free tutoring for students enrolled at Long Beach City College. You can see a tutor by scheduling an appointment in person at LAC in L-203 and at PCC in LL-215. We offer tutoring in a variety of subjects including accounting, math, science, foreign language, political science, and history. Walk-in tutoring is sometimes available; at LAC check with the counter staff in L-203 and at PCC check in LL-215.

TUTORING POLICIES

We hope the following information will help you with some of the questions you may have about tutoring.

* Tutoring appointments are an hour long and are scheduled on an as-needed basis.
* Drop-in help is possible if a previously scheduled appointment opens up due to a cancellation or no-show, or if a tutor is available. You can check the walk-in board at either campus to see if someone is available.
* If a student fails to keep an appointment after having come at least once, we give him/her the benefit of the doubt and will wait to hear from him/her during the week. If he/she misses a second consecutive appointment, the name will be removed.
* If you must miss your appointment, please call the tutoring program desk and cancel by leaving a message with a center advisor or on the voicemail. The number is LAC 938-4474 and PCC 938-3255. If you do not cancel, we will mark you as a “no-show.”
* We do not like to waste our tutors’ time; as a result, frequent cancellations and/or no-shows may result in a suspension of privileges.
* For additional drop-in help with math, visit the Math Success Center in D-103 at LAC (938-4228).
* For assistance with writing (English), visit the Writing & Reading Success Center in E07L at LAC (938-4520) or the Multidisciplinary Success Center in L-206 at PCC (938-3991).
