SF Story History
The Street Fighter universe is near-impossible to get a 100% accurate story history on. Despite attempts by fans and even Capcom to create some sort of cohesive plot canon assembled due to the large number of games released and the lack of complete plots to each of the games. Relationships and outcomes between games are hinted at but rarely stated in definite terms. Even in official books published by Capcom of Japan, such as Street Fighter Eternal Challenge, the collective history of SF game plots is not presented.
Officially licensed work such as comic books, animé and manga series only help add to this confusion. As each work is an extension of the SF universe and many times the SF staff at Capcom gives a once-over to characters or storylines as they are presented in the series.
So whom are we to believe when it comes to the War? There is no simple answer, the War is my interpretation of the plot and characters established by the game series, manga, animé and comics. The hope in production is to make the game a team effort and try to be respectful of the work of the designers and programmers of the original SF series, while still taking the artistic liberties that paid off in the manga and comics. Sadly there will never be a version of the game that will make all of the fans of the game series completely happy. However I am doing my best in attempting to appeal to fans of the game from all around the world, rather than making either an "American" or "Japanese" version of a Street Fighter game. I hope fans can understand my dilemma in taking liberties and making more out of a few threads of information than were originally presented by Capcom. After all it is a difficult task tying the entire SF game universe together with one grand plot and various subplots. |
