Redesigning the Characters: Part 1
What amazes me is how little Capcom has chosen to evolve the sprites. The Virtua Fighter series would never have survived if Sega had created sequels using the exact same polygon models as the first game. Virtua Fighter went through many evolutions in order to appear and play like it does now. Capcom has not been evolving as quickly as far as sprite rendering techniques are involved. Take the comparison below, in 10 years Sega evolved the Virtua Fighter polygons far more than Capcom evolved the Street Fighter sprites.

Capcom is in a unique position for the War. No other game series has the potential to become the War. I could never pitch this idea to another studio because there is simply no other fighting game universe as well developed with as many characters and history to pull from. Logging in at almost a decade the KOF and Samurai Spirits series do come close however the 15+ years Capcom has spent developing the robust Street Fighter universe is unmatchable. Games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter are limited in that they are visual masterpieces but have been unable to add many new characters over those 10 years due to the high cost of developing 3D engines.
